About Tech Thursday
Tech Thursday is one of Canada’s fastest-growing tech community platforms, hosting weekly events that bring together the country’s most ambitious founders, operators, innovators, and ecosystem leaders. Since 2022, we’ve welcomed 30,000+ attendees, built an audience of 10,000+ newsletter subscribers, and expanded to multiple cities across Canada.
Our mission: create the space for high-quality thought leadership and collisions that accelerate innovation, grow talent density, and strengthen Canada’s tech ecosystems.
We’re expanding rapidly across the Prairies and beyond, building a national connective tissue for tech communities. To support this next stage of growth, we’re hiring an Operations Lead to work alongside the founder, build internal systems, lead cross-city execution, and manage our partnerships.
Why This Role Matters
This isn’t a back-office operations job. This is a career-launching, front-row seat to Canada’s tech ecosystem.
Reporting to the Founder & CEO, you’ll become the operational engine that powers Tech Thursday. You’ll shape how our communities run, connect with tech, government and innovation leaders across the country, and influence how Tech Thursday scales nationally.
If you’re ambitious, organized, and excited by the idea of building something big and meaningful, this is your platform.
This role includes some evening availability. We’re seeking someone energized by fast growth, high ownership, and a mission that’s bigger than any one city. What we promise in return: this role won’t stay static. You’ll grow as we grow, taking on higher-level strategy, leadership opportunities, and exposure to some of the most influential people and organizations in Canadian tech.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Planning & Founder Leverage:
- Build the workflows, plans and operational rhythm that keep every city moving in sync.
- Create structure in ambiguity and help the Founder focus on the highest-impact opportunities.
National Operations & Multi-City Program Management:
- Own the quality and cadence of weekly events across Calgary, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Ottawa, and future expansion cities.
- Build and standardize playbooks for event execution, panel design, speaker sourcing, and new city launches.
- Support and guide local city leads, volunteers, and steering committees to deliver consistently excellent experiences.
Sponsorship & Ecosystem Partner Delivery:
- Ensure sponsors and partners receive full value (e.g., brand visibility, impressions, attendee data, panel design).
- Manage cross-city, multi-event sponsorship execution.
Internal Operations, Systems & Team Building:
- Build the processes for hiring, onboarding, communication, and project management tools that help a national team operate like a single unit.
- Run weekly team meetings and help shape strong internal culture as we scale.
Content, Programming & Thought Leadership:
- Work with the Founder and content team to shape event programming, panel themes, and speaker briefs.
- Support content creators to ensure newsletters, recaps, and thought leadership are delivered with consistency and quality.
- Uphold Tech Thursday’s reputation for curated, high-quality programming.
What You Bring
- 2-5 years of experience in operations, consulting, venture, startups, or another fast-paced environment.
- A builder’s mindset: you see problems early, create structure quickly, and execute with excellence.
- A confident communicator who can engage with founders, policymakers, executives, and community leaders.
- Experience juggling multi-stakeholder environments with many moving parts.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and rapid scaling - and the energy to thrive in it!
